Dr. Jennell Appel has been involved in the field of canine rehabilitation since 2002, with a special interest in canine athletics. Dr. Appel obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University. She attended St. Georgeʼs University College of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada, graduating in 2008 following one year of clinical rotations at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Appel completed her certification as a Canine Rehabilitation Therapist in 2009 from the Canine Rehabilitation Institute.

 

Dr. Appel specializes in postoperative rehabilitation, sports medicine, athletic conditioning and injury prevention. She is the Chief Veterinary Consultant for Biko Animal Physiotherapeutics, who pioneered the first and only progressive elastic resistance product available in veterinary medicine. Dr. Appel is passionate about veterinary rehabilitation and sports medicine education and regularly speaks at canine athletic seminars regarding injury prevention and conditioning.

Dr. Appel founded SportVet Canine Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Mobile Clinic in 2013, a unique 28 foot mobile unit capable of treating athletes in the field. SportVet travels throughout the Southeast, attending field trials, hunt tests, lure coursing events and agility trials. The unit contains a VetSystems whirlpool with Bioelectric Therapy, which is a state of the art treatment combining the benefits of hydrotherapy and electrical stimulation for pain management.
